AGB BOOK & FILM CLUB: 19 APRIL: NIGHT STREET

Join with other Members and firends who like discussing books, films and art. The AGB Book & Film Club will continue to meet online for at least the first two events of 2021.

The April session will discuss Kristel Thornell’s Night Street. This novel celebrating the short life of Australian artist, Clarice Beckett was the co-winner of the 2009 Australian/Vogel Literary Award. It is the passionate story of a young painter, Clarice Beckett, who defies society’s strict conventions and indifferent art critics alike and leads an intense private and professional life.

Night Street began with Thornell’s first encounter with the paintings of Melbourne artist Clarice Beckett (1887-1935) at the Art Gallery of South Australia and our discussion will coincide with the exhibition Clarice Beckett: The present moment at the Art Gallery of South Australia, which will include Beckett works from the Art Gallery of Ballarat collection.

Register for the event and the online link will be sent to you the week prior to the event.
