IN THE SHADOW OF SUMMER: AN EXPLORATION OF DESIGN THROUGH BONSAI
Bonsai is not a form of garden decoration. It is a way of contemplating and paying reverence to the natural world, based on principles developed by Buddhist masters in China and Japan many centuries ago. This exhibition brings together twenty-five mature trees from the collection of Jeff Barry, one Australia’s leading exponents of Bonsai.
This is a rare opportunity to see the highest quality bonsai in a gallery setting, together with a selection of contemporary Australian ceramics similarly inspired by Japanese aesthetic traditions.
The exhibition will be complemented by talks from Bonsai experts Joe Morgan-Payler and Jeff Barry and a concert led by shakuhachi player Adam Simmons.
