Jon Harris: The Original Memory

Thu 25 Aug – Sun 2 Oct

We are not shadows of our former selves.

We use this shadow within this space and watch as the shadow becomes part of the light.

The memories of a person lie in the space in-between fact and fiction; surrounding themselves with objects, new and old — as well as voices recorded twenty years apart. As memories and fears are spoken within the space, theories, thoughts and truths are revealed.

Part performance, soundscape and installation, this is a memory and a memorial.

Jon Harris has been performing his own work for twenty years in Europe and Australia. Taking inspiration from the culture(s) around him, his own experience and the views and actions of others, he weaves together stories and images that are as unforgiving as they are funny and/or emotive.

Harris has worked with artists and directors such as Rose English, Dawn Rose, Penny Howe, Fiona Blair and Jude Anderson to produce one-man performances, site-specific work and digital projects.

There will be a live presentation of the installation three times during the run of the exhibition, on 28 August, 17 September and 2 October.

Installation and performance devised and created by Jon Harris. Additional artwork created by Sally Goldstraw and Andrew McDonald

Installation performers: Jon Harris (AUS/UK), Penny Howe (UK), Dawn Rose (UK), Jane Badler (AUS/US), Fiona Blair (AUS), Sally Leslie (AUS) and chorus.
