NYAGAK YANG: MY KULTURE
Nyagak Yang is a young Nuer South Sudanese-born artist based in Ballarat and Geelong. She came with her family to Australia at the age of four from a refugee camp in Ethiopia in 2005.
From an artistic family, Nyagak uses her work to explore the challenges of growing up black in a dominant white culture. She has previously shown her powerful larger-than-life portraits, both drawings and paintings, in cafes and community-run art spaces, but this will be her first opportunity to show work in a regional gallery.
This exhibition launches during Refugee Week 2021.
