STELLA CLARKE, JESSICA DE SISO, DEBORAH LEE KLEIN: NATURE WORKS
Nature works is an exhibition of paintings and sculptural works by three Ballarat-based artists who take inspiration from the natural world.
Stella Clarke’s landscape paintings celebrate the life-giving necessity of water in our local environs. While she acknowledges the ever-present threat of climate change and the harmful mismanagement of our dry lands, Stella’s creative practice is motivated by the recognition that ecosystems need to be allowed to survive and thrive.
Jessica de Siso transforms the discarded detritus from our lives into compositions which are embedded with fresh meaning. Items which have been impacted by rust, pollution and erosion are assembled into semi-abstract compositions which echo the colours, shapes and textures of nature.
Deborah Lee Klein explores the possibilities inherent in the old craft of cut-paper illustration. Her intricately detailed works reflect a fascination with the infinite variety of life on earth, the fine natural science specimens to be found in the library of every self-respecting Edwardian gentleman and the lyrical decorative traditions of Asia.
