ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The Art Gallery of Ballarat Foundation was established in 1998 as a Charitable Fund for the future benefit of the Gallery.

The main aim of the Foundation is to establish a substantial capital endowment to earn sufficient income to assist the Gallery with specific projects or acquisitions.

In recent years, the Foundation has supported the Gallery through:

  • Contributions of more than $1million for the acquisition and conservation of works of art;
  • Purchasing Cowan’s Building at 50 Lydiard Street North next to the Gallery for future expansion of the Gallery;
  • Funding the redevelopment of the Gallery website, including an online presence for the Gallery Shop; and
  • Funding support for Gallery publications.

As well providing cultural benefits to the Ballarat community, the Foundation’s support also boosts the local economy through the tourism generated by visitation and engagement with the Gallery.

Income from the Foundation is applied to acquisitions and conservation of major works of art, major exhibitions and educational programs, publications and research projects, scholarships and traineeships, buildings and equipment.

The Foundation also accepts gifts where the capital is to be applied to these purposes.

All donations and gifts are tax deductible.
